Coir Rugs

Coir is an eco friendly as well as cost effective material which could be used for making rugs. Even though coir rugs are a part of modern floor coverings, they are nowadays used as modern ways of decorating homes.

They are known for their durability and multi purpose uses. Apart from all these, the most important secret behind their fame is the royalty which is achieved at low cost.

Coir is the product obtained from the coconut husk and it mainly produced in Kerala as it is the State with largest production of coir.

Kerala is called as the ‘Land of Coconuts’ due to this reason. Apart from this it is estimated that 75 percent of coir for India comes from Kerala as they are referred to as the largest producer of coir.

Another name which is given to coir is ‘Wonder fiber’ which is used for making coir rugs.

Coir making for various purposes like coir rugs has been seen as an important work in almost all coastal states. Apart from coir rugs and carpets other products such as bags, mats, wall hangings and many more are made from coir fiber.

Coir rugs are considered to be of significant use as they are soft, durable and even reliable to certain extent. One of the major features of the coir rugs is that it adjusts with the temperature and due to this reason they are preferred world wide.

The advantage is that these coir rugs stay cool in summers and warm in winters. A major drawback related to coir carpets is that they are not water resistant and due to this very reason they could not be used in water stagnating or at those places where water is used always.

The coir rugs cannot be used in bathrooms and kitchens as they get spoiled soon. But this disadvantage can be overcome by replacing new rugs often as they are available at cheap prices.
