The Persian carpets are the first people to introduce the carpeting to the world. It dates back to ancient Persia to almost 500 B.C. they are referred to as the masters in carpets making.

The hand woven carpets are known to be the Persian carpets which are seen in wonderful designs and patterns which are unique to them. The Indian craftsmen especially the Kashmiri carpets are said to be evolved from Persian carpets.

Later they started making their own patterns and designs, but the origination is from Persia.The hand woven carpets are produced even now with the help of excellent craftsmen event though people machinery is widely introduced widely.

But the hand woven carpets are seen to be much more costly than the machine made variety. For the production of hand woven carpets the important material used is wool and cotton is preferred for making the foundation of the carpet.

Silk is used rarely as they cost much higher and it becomes high quality carpets. Hand woven carpets are of different varieties such as Shiraz carpets, Wiss carpets and many more.

The Shiraz carpets are those hand woven carpets made in Shiraz located in Central Iran. It is done easily by cutting piles along with plain colour schemes.

They use varying varieties such as small animals, plants, geometric motifs and barber-pole effects are done with two colours.

The Wiss carpets are hand woven carpets which are the natives of Wiss village in Iran. They use floral patterns, palmettes, foliages etc as designs.

They even have colour codes which are specified for the purpose of making these hand woven varieties. Red is the common colour used even though burgundy is also preferred.
