A wide range of rugs are produced in India. They are famous for the rugs they create and sell. Among the different types of Indian rugs, the silk and woollen rugs reign the world more than the cotton rugs.
Earlier in India the designs for rugs were adopted from Persia. It was only later various designs from other countries such as China, Turkey, Morocco, Afghanistan and France were introduced.
After that the craftsmen started to produce their own kinds of work which gained importance in the long run. These designs were introduced only after the pile industry came into being.
It is to be noted that not every rugs are the same, each of them differ from each other. Every region has their own patterns and styles for making rugs.
For example, from Ladakh to Darjeeling along West Bengal and from Sikkim to Manipur usually rugs are made from pure wool which has a glowing texture and made from bright colours. |
