The art of carpet making came into being in the mountainous regions of the East very early from the 16th century itself. The area spreads from Turkey to Persia and even from Central Asia into China.
These regions are known for their sheep fleets and even for the growing lengths of the camel and goat hair. It was during this time the artifact of carpet weaving reached its peak.
The workmen worked on handlooms which consisted of two horizontal beams in which the warp or the vertical threads were tied by stretching it. The finished carpet rolled out from the warp outside as the upper one unrolled it.
In oriental carpets usually the hair of camels and goats were used. But apart from these oriental carpets also started to be made from the wool of sheep’s which was largely available.
Various other modifications of the oriental carpets with silk threads came into being. |
