Indian men have the cotton kurta, a traditional piece of clothing endemic to South Asia, for an institution in wardrobe. Even though girls have taken to wearing them, however, it is still a man’s apparel in the main.
This garment is described as a loose tunic falling either just above or somewhere below the knees.
Loose salwar pants usually go with the cotton kurta. But then again, the good old churidar pants, a more tight-fitting variant of the salwar, are also an option.
Churidar pants fit loosely above the knees, but taper to a tight fit around the ankles. In turn, this provides the legs a wider range of movement.
Cotton kurtas are loose-fitting around the torso, making for a comfortable, airy and lightweight shirt. Aside from cotton, kurtas are derived from porous fabrics like linen. But there is nothing like the cotton kurta and a good pair of jeans on a scorching day.
The cotton kurta need not be generic at all, in that rich embroidery work, gold and silver threading and other fine embellishments can make it trendier.
