Designer Sarees

Ever since its inception, the wearing of sari is truly in for the long haul. The dependable sari has reached through the millennia just in time for India’s cadre of enterprising and maverick designers.

Now the sari is in on reinvention, as only the treatments of these designers can make. Designer sarees pull out all the stops in creativity, the kind that borders on avant-garde.

It is a win-win situation for India, in that designers are contorting the sari into an increasingly Westernizing culture. For the moment nevertheless, relevance is still not wanting for saris.

As it is in ancient times, no turning of the century can satiate the use of georgettes, crepes, and silks. More often than not, designers work their way through embroidery designs and other traditional embellishments.

That said, designer sarees are larger-than-life masterpieces with modern configurations of beads, khadanas, zardosi, crystals, kundans and a variety of other works.

As a sign of the evolving times, computer technology has muscled in on the making of saris. Designer sarees are produced at great lengths in a bid to make an antiquated ethnic wear fit for the contemporary era.

Only such vision confers new trends and styles. Most tellingly, the designer saree has consequently become a fusion of traditional patterns and modern styling.

Satya Paul, JJ Valaya, Renu Dadlani, Ragini Singhania and the rest of India’s designing ilk have always been reinventing the saree.

Unheard of millennia ago, the sari, according to Satya Paul at least, may now have Swarovski crystals for embellishments in the stead of the good old zari.

While the fabrics used are an end in itself, the luminous crystals enhance the impact of these designer sarees. If anything, this genius’ designer sarees play with colors such as tropical sunset colors and Krishna blue.

Other designers out and about in the scene of cutting-edge designer sarees are JJ Valaya, Ritu Kumar, and Renu Tandon. Nevertheless, Renu Dadlani's “Prateeksha” collection tries to be more conventional.
